Data Usage Meter Information

Comcast is committed to providing you with the best online experience possible. As part of our ongoing efforts to continuously improve the quality of our service, we developed a data usage meter for our Comcast High-Speed Internet customers. This data usage meter will allow you to measure all usage from your cable modem. If you have a router connected to your modem, the data usage meter will collect data usage from all your devices connected to that router.

A pilot market deployment of the data usage meter will begin in the Portland, Oregon area on December 1, 2009. To access the data usage meter, go to http://customer.comcast.com and sign in using your Primary or Unrestricted Secondary account. Click on the "Users and Settings" tab. There, you will see a link to "View details" in the "My devices" section that will take you to your data usage details page.

The data usage page contains details and provides a rolling three month history of your data usage.

Listed below are definitions to key features and terminology within the usage details page.

Key Features:

  • Data Usage Meter: This horizontal bar shows the percentage of your actual data usage within the last three (3) hours.
  • Usage History Bar Graph: The bar graph will display your monthly data usage for the last three (3) months. If you have no usage history for the prior month, the usage history graph will display your current month data usage.

Key Terminology:

  • Included: Indicates your monthly data usage allowance.
  • Used: Indicates in Gigabytes (GB) your actual data usage during the current month, updated within the last three hours. This will reset at the end of each calendar month.
  • Remaining: Indicates in Gigabytes (GB) your remaining data usage allowance for the current month. This will reset at the end of the calendar month.

If you have more than one cable modem in your household, you will have access to a drop-down box to select individual devices and view data usage for each of these devices, as noted in the picture below.

The data usage meter is available for no additional charge to high-speed Internet customers. If you have questions on the data usage meter, please visit our Comcast.net help site and search for "data usage meter."
